How does a locksmith open a locked door?

If the lock has been damaged it may not be possible for the locksmith to pick the lock.

How long does it take a locksmith to open a door?

It can take anywhere from 7 seconds to 45 minutes for a locksmith to pick open a lock. Generally a locksmith should be able to unlock most doors in about 10 minutes. Of course this is effected by the type of lock. Time is also dependant on if there is a single lock on the door or if there are multiple locks installed which require unlockng.

Has the lock been installed upside down? This can make the job take longer. The increase of anti-bumping and anti-picking locks being widely available also impacts the time it takes for a locksmith to open the lock without causing damage.

When will a professional locksmith drill out the lock?

Qualified and professional locksmiths prioritise opening a lock without causing damage. Sometimes however, locks are unpickable. If the lock has a faulty spring a professional locksmith will be unable to pick the lock and it will need to be drilled out. If for some reason your lock is faulty or unpickable the locksmith will be able to replace the cylinder of your lock and provide you with a new key.
