Lock it up.
The most obvious is to keep the garage locked! If your garage has doorway access directly into your home ensure that this door is also locked at all times. It’s a good idea to install a quality deadbolt or deadlatch onto any door from the garage leading into the house. (You can read more on the difference between these lock types here.)
Light the way.
Burglars prefer to work in the cover of dark. By setting up lighting around your garage can aid in keeping burglars at bay. Install a sensor light to turn on as you enter the driveway and approach the garage. Not only will it prove a burglar deterrent it will also assist you with seeing better when coming home late. It is also best to have a sensor light on the back of your garage especially if this leads into the yard. The more lit up you are able to make your property at night the safer.
Keep your remote safe.
Try to avoid leaving the remote to your garage in your car. There are key chain remotes available which means you can clip your garage remote to your set of keys. With the technological advancements in security you can also now set up a smart garage door opener. This can be activated by your smart phone and means you don’t need to carry around any extra devices with you.
