This month we’re starting something new. Through our ‘Locksmiths Lit Up’ blog series you will be introduced to one of our team members each month. Get to know your local locksmiths.

Being a good sport and kicking things off is Steve our Workshop Manager.

Why did you become a locksmith?

I became a locksmith as I wanted to follow in my Father’s footsteps. He is a locksmith back in Malaysia. Ever since my younger days I was a more hands on person. I would work with my Dad in his workshop filled with tools. Repairing locks and cutting keys was something I enjoyed from a young age.

What do you enjoy most about being a locksmith?

I enjoy seeing the joy in client’s faces. Knowing that what we are doing in nothing but to benefit them in terms of security and peace. Each lock we install onto a door secures them further, providing them with a greater peace of mind. Besides that, everyday there is always something new. It is never two days of the exact same thing, which makes every day an interesting one.

What excites you about the locksmith industry?

The locksmith industry is a close-knit one where everyone knows everyone. Annually there will be a few Master Locks Association of Australia (MLAA) meetings. From the most experienced locksmith through to a fresh apprentice will be there. Everyone is there to learn and grow from one another. In times of needs locksmiths would help out one another which brings the locksmithing community closer.
