Why did you become a locksmith?

The careers teacher in year 12 mentioned to a few of us students that the local locksmiths had an apprenticeship available. I’d never thought of being a locksmith as a career before then, and so it got me thinking. The thought of learning how locks worked, and all the aspects of the security industry and knowing I’d have to be trustworthy and responsible was enough for me to apply for the job, and the rest is history. I started my new career journey on the 11/11/2011.

What do you enjoy most about being a locksmith?

There is quite a few aspects of locksmithing that I enjoy but one of them would be, creating and designing master key systems. Customers have no idea how we can get multiple keys to operate one lock and then how certain keys will only operate certain areas. There is careful thought that goes in behind it but very rewarding when it all comes together.

What excites you about the locksmith industry?

The locksmith industry is forever evolving. New products are always coming out to make life quicker and easier for the customer. Everything can connect to your phone these days. Locks, alarms and cameras all accessible while on the go. This sort of technology in our industry is what excites me.
